Hello, my name is Eric Rapp, and for over 45 years, I’ve been a musician and songwriting. Born into poverty, my childhood was shadowed by physical and mental struggles, including severe depression, anxiety, and eating disorders. Music became my sanctuary, yet it was never a cure for the turmoil within.
In my late teens, I found myself adrift, moving from one precarious situation to another, ensnared by the grips of addiction to drugs and alcohol. The weight of my struggles grew heavier, leading me to the brink of despair. But in 1981, through a remarkable series of events, I experienced a profound transformation—I became a Christian. It was as if I had been plunged from darkness into blinding light in an instant. Although my life didn’t magically improve overnight, a profound change took place within me. Without any background in faith, I discovered the essence of hope, love, and wellbeing as I felt the very presence of God awaken within my spirit.
At first, I immersed myself in religious practices, which offered me insights into the life of Christ. However, as time passed, that initial sense of divine presence began to fade. Yet, in His infinite grace, the Lord refused to leave me in that place. Through yet another series of miraculous events, I transitioned from merely knowing ABOUT Him to truly KNOWING Him. Life still brought its challenges, but the Lord continues to reveal Himself, drawing me closer to His purpose and pleasure—this is the essence of the Christian journey.
It was at that point that I started writing songs again. I had something that I wanted to tell the world. I have met so many Christians that were/are in that same place of despair. (Or at least had given up hope that there was more to their Christian experience.) So many of my songs talk about there being more to life, more to God and more to Christianity. Songs like “More of the Lord”, “Beyond Our Horizon” and “Deeper, Higher and Wider” to name a few.
I have had the opportunity to share my music, testimony and message (see mission-purpose below) with people throughout the United States and in many foreign countries. I have recorded over 50 songs, perform as solo artist and with different musicians, leads worship services and work with many ministries. My heart is to have a conversation about knowing and experiencing a God who is breathtaking. I hope that I have the opportunity to have this conversation with you as well.
